He has also published numerous articles in a variety of journals on subjects ranging from presidential rhetoric to congressional careers and the Louisiana Purchase to the Pendleton Act of 1883.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Theriault, whose classes include the U.S. Congress, Congressional Elections, Party Polarization in the United States, and the Politics of the Catholic Church, is passionate about teaching. &nbsp;He has received numerous teaching awards, including the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bwD1LLhZpGg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Friar Society Teaching Fellowship<\/a>&nbsp;(the biggest undergraduate teaching award at UT) in 2009, UT Professor the Year in 2011, and the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.utsystem.edu\/teachingawards\/2014\/Academic\/tenured.htm#stheriault\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Regents&#8217; Outstanding Teaching Award<\/a>&nbsp;in 2014. &nbsp;In 2012, he was inducted into the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.utexas.edu\/faculty\/academy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academy of Distinguished Teachers<\/a>.&nbsp; He has experienced no greater honor than \u201cofficiating\u201d at two weddings for former students.\u2028<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Theriault, who grew up in Michigan, has been to all 50 states (though only 49 state capitols) and six continents. &nbsp;His research and teaching have taken him to among other places Seoul, Rome, and Berlin. &nbsp;He is a competitive tennis player and an avid runner, having competed twice in the Boston Marathon.&nbsp; Before obtaining his Ph.D. from Stanford University (in 2001; M.A. in Political Science in 2000), he attended the University of Richmond (B.A., 1993), and the University of Rochester (M.S. in Public Policy Analysis, 1996).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":594,"template":"","class_list":{"0":"post-592","1":"speaker","2":"type-speaker","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"entry"},"acf":{"speaker_title":"Professor in the Department of Government at the University of Texas at Austin","speaker_last_name":"Theriault","speaker_classification":["Current Staff"]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/podcasts.la.utexas.edu\/thepolicyagenda\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/speaker\/592","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/podcasts.la.utexas.edu\/thepolicyagenda\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/speaker"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/podcasts.la.utexas.edu\/thepolicyagenda\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/speaker"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/podcasts.la.utexas.edu\/thepolicyagenda\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/speaker\/592\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":695,"href":"https:\/\/podcasts.la.utexas.edu\/thepolicyagenda\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/speaker\/592\/revisions\/695"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/podcasts.la.utexas.edu\/thepolicyagenda\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/594"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/podcasts.la.utexas.edu\/thepolicyagenda\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=592"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
