The Horns are Home – Episode 1
[00:00:00] Etinosa: Welcome to the Horns are Home Podcast. This podcast is dedicating to making UT feel like home for our students.
[00:00:07] Brandon: The show exists to help facilitate conversations that are relevant to the UT student experience and to help them get connected to the UT community, as well as increased student sense of belonging.
[00:00:17] Etinosa: So why would we create a podcast like this?
[00:00:20] Brandon: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I think that number one, first, let’s start with the title. The Horns are Home really originated, for those of you that don’t know, uh, when we were coming outta Covid, and I think that Dr. TAs was looking for a way to get a mantra or a theme going that we could rally around for the academic year to let people know that we’re back and that we’re ready to be better than ever and whatever this new normal was gonna be.
[00:00:45] And so that year we had, uh, t-shirts. Said the horns are home and we liked it. And so since we were finishing out our last podcast, we were like, What’s a good name for something new? And so that’s where we got that. And so, yeah, that’s why the horns are home. But why would we continue doing that though? Like what, what?
[00:01:05] What do you feel like the people need to know about why we would do a show like this? What do our students.
[00:01:11] Etinosa: This is home for a lot of our students. Mm-hmm. , you know, some of our students are coming straight out of high school and they’re gonna spend the next 4, 5, 6 years here. Mm-hmm. and they’re going to be encompassed by the University of Texas at Austin culture.
[00:01:23] And we wanna make sure that we are in spaces that our students occupy. We wanna be telling the stories that they’re hearing. We wanna give advice, uh, along their journey. And it’s not just. University, housing and dining. We know you guys have different majors, You guys are having different experiences and we wanna make sure that this podcast not only feels like a safe space, but it’s a home base for you guys to listen to.
[00:01:47] Um, we’re really excited to have a podcast like this that really. Is in the ears of our students when you’re walking across campus, when you’re on the 40 acres, if you’re at the university apartments. Mm-hmm. at on Lake Austin Boulevard or just in your departments or anywhere that says UT Austin. Mm-hmm.
[00:02:05] Brandon: And the other thing that I like about, uh, what this this particular podcast is gonna do for our students is that it’s also gonna. Identify and share the history and the stories of the spaces that our students have called home here on campus. And so it’ll feature people that occupy those spaces that work in those spaces, uh, pe familiar faces that you see walking across campus, the folks that, uh, work within housing and dining, as well as within the division of Student Affairs and maybe on the academic side of the house as well.
[00:02:36] And then we’ll be talking about topics that are related to the student experience. Advising or registering for classes or, uh, where are you at this particular point in time in the year? And we’ll be giving strategies and suggestions to help make this place feel more like home in every way. And my favorite part, I don’t know about you, but my favorite part is the fact that we’ll be recording live on location at times.
[00:02:59] Is there a particular place that you’re excited about recording? Oh that you think the students will like,
[00:03:05] Etinosa: I hope to expose them to my office. . I would, I can’t wait to record in my office, expose you guys to the university apartments, show you guys all the nooks and crannies of UT that maybe you guys don’t normally get to see.
[00:03:19] Um, and I’m so excited to just. Go on that tour. So you guys will be seeing us. We’re not just gonna be behind a mic this time. Yeah, we’ll be on campus with you guys.
[00:03:28] Brandon: So here’s what you need to do. If you’re listening to this trailer, one of the first things we want you to do is make sure that you’re following, uh, university housing and dining, social media accounts.
[00:03:36] And so, uh, on Instagram, it’s @ University Housing and Dining on Twitter, it’s uh, UT housing. And yeah, you will find. All that you need to know. And I think it’s the same for TikTok as well. I, I’m not on TikTok, I don’t know our TikTok handle, but, uh, we are definitely on TikTok according to our social media coordinator, Ramses,
[00:03:55] and so, uh, really looking forward to connecting with you all. And so stay tuned for those updates. So, anything else?
[00:04:02] Etinosa: That’s all I got. So welcome to the Horns are Home Podcast.
[00:04:06] Brandon: See you soon.
