Dr. Michael A. Goodman

Dr. Michael A. Goodman (he/him) is a higher education and student affairs educator whose research focuses on student governance and involvement. Goodman previously worked as the associate director of advising and programming in fraternity/sorority life at the University of Maryland, College Park, and as a senior assistant director in student life at Indiana University. Goodman’s research involves college student government and sorority/fraternity life (SFL) — including equity and justice issues, experiences of new professionals, queer students, social justice and social media in SFL, and bias-response in SFL. Additionally, Goodman studies graduate students and new professionals and experiences with work environment and equity. Goodman earned a Bachelor of Arts in organizational communication from the University of Central Oklahoma, where he was among the first class of graduates to earn a Leadership minor. He achieved a Master of Science in Education degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University, and a doctorate in Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Education Policy (concentration: student affairs) from the University of Maryland, College Park. Goodman is a volunteer with NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, where he previously served on the Fraternity and Sorority Knowledge Community and currently serves as the Research Coordinator for the Student Government Knowledge Community. He also volunteers with the Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors (AFA) as a member of the Research Committee and a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee. Goodman is a Scholar in The Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research and Reform’s Scholars Program at Pennsylvania State University.
