Kate Jonesco Lower, MA, LCPC, is the inaugural director of SHIFT, a new initiative at UT aimed to change the culture of substance use on campus. SHIFT hopes to nurture a culture of community, healthy connections, and positive coping skills while reducing substance misuse and its harms. This effort embraces collaborative partnerships both on and off-campus to engage students, faculty, and staff members in a dialogue that challenges the current norm of substance misuse as an inevitable part of college life. SHIFT aims to leverage what exists while further cultivating innovative ideas around shifting campus culture. Kate has worked in the clinical realm as a dance/movement therapist before focusing on prevention in higher education. She received her BA from Loyola University Chicago and her graduate degree at Columbia College Chicago in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling.
