A specialist in the philosophy of mind and language, he has interests ranging widely over issues in ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology. His publications include &#8216;Consequences of Consequentialism&#8217; (<em>Mind,<\/em>1993), &#8216;The Import of the Puzzle About Belief&#8217; (<em>Philosophical Review,&nbsp;<\/em>1996), &#8216;Rigidity in the Scope of Russell&#8217;s Theory&#8217; (<em>Nous<\/em>, 2001), and (with Bonevac and Dever) &#8216;The Conditional Fallacy&#8217; (<em>Philosophical Review<\/em>, 2006). He served as co-editor (with A.P. Martinich) of&nbsp;<em>A Companion to Analytic Philosophy<\/em>&nbsp;(Blackwell, 2001),&nbsp;<em>Analytic Philosophy: An Anthology&nbsp;<\/em>(Blackwell, 2001; 2nd edition 2010), and&nbsp;<em>Philosophy of Language<\/em>&nbsp;(Oxford, forthcoming 2012), and as associate editor of&nbsp;<em>Philosophy for the 21st Century&nbsp;<\/em>(Oxford, 2002).
