Elizabeth Kvale, M.D., MSPH, is the director of the Supportive Care and Survivorship Program and medical director of the cancer treatment program at Livestrong Cancer Institutes. She is leading the team implementing the CaLM model of clinical care.
Kvale is also an associate professor of medicine at Dell Medical School and the section chief of palliative care. She is responsible for building the program of research in palliative medicine and developing training programs for future health care professionals, including a new palliative care fellowship.
Prior to joining Dell Medical School, Kvale built an innovative supportive care program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham that was singled out as a model program by the Center to Advance Palliative Care. Kvale’s research programs have also focused on developing novel models of delivering health care to people living with serious illness. She led the palliative core in the successful PatientCareConnect CMS Innovation program noted to “improve end-of-life quality, reduce utilization and spending” in Health Affairs (2017). She was also a founding medical director for the national home-based palliative care company Aspire Health and remains committed to developing the role of market forces in the dissemination of high-quality care to people living with serious illness.
