First drawn into the fight against segregation in the 1960s, she became a leader of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) at the University of Texas. She helped launch Austin\u2019s underground newspaper\u00a0<em>The Rag<\/em>, researched and wrote for the North American Congress on Latin America (NACLA) in New York, and contributed to the 1970 anthology\u00a0<em>Sisterhood is Powerful<\/em>, edited by Robin Morgan. She was featured in the 2001 documentary\u00a0<em>Rebels with a Cause<\/em>\u00a0directed by Helen Garvy and in the 2018 documentary by UT\u2019s College of Liberal Arts,\u00a0<em>Fight Like a Girl: How Women\u2019s Activism Shapes History<\/em>.<br>\u00a0<br>Alice has written for the\u00a0<em>Texas Observer<\/em>, the\u00a0<em>Rag Blog<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Collective Impressions<\/em>. She is an editor of the acclaimed 2016 book\u00a0<em>Celebrating The Rag: Austin\u2019s Iconic Underground Newspaper<\/em>, and a book of her poetry,\u00a0<em>Looking Glass<\/em>, was published in 2018.<br>\u00a0<br>She received a BA and Master of Science degrees in Community and Regional Planning from UT Austin.
